We are thrilled to announce that Brett Egan, one of our dedicated agents at Compass Insurance, has been recognized as one of the Big I of Illinois 40 Under 40 Agents. The agents featured in this article are defined as Illinois insurance professionals under 40 years old who are bright, rising stars in the industry. Check out his insights and interview below.
A Family Legacy and a Passion for Insurance
Brett’s journey into the world of insurance was inspired by a family legacy. His Grandpa Larry and his mom Nikki, had long been involved in the insurance business, sparking Brett’s interest from a young age.
“I enjoy talking to people and forming/maintaining relationships within my community as well as surrounding towns,” Brett shares. “My mom told me to choose the independent side if I were going to get into the business, and I am very thankful for that! Compass Insurance has been a great fit for me.”
Overcoming Early Challenges
Brett’s path to success wasn’t without its challenges. Starting his career in a town outside of his hometown, Brett had to learn to grow relationships and work with people he had never met. However, with the guidance of an experienced CSR, Jodee, in a nearby office who helped him get started and understand insurance in depth, he quickly adapted to the job’s demands.
“There were plenty of ups and downs and ‘no’s’ in the beginning, but I learned to turn the no’s into learning pieces instead of getting too down on myself,” Brett recalls.
His perseverance paid off, and he now serves a robust customer base, thanks to his dedication and the support of his excellent CSR, Miranda. Brett also noted that he is very fortunate to have his hometown and the people who have trusted him in his early years in the business.
Breaking Stereotypes
Brett is a strong advocate for the capabilities of young professionals in the insurance sector. He acknowledges that age can sometimes be a concern for clients when choosing an insurance agent, but he believes in the fresh perspectives and eagerness that younger generations bring to the table.
“I’ve noticed that some people let age become a factor when choosing an insurance agent, but there are some brilliant young individuals coming into the workplace eager to help new customers,” Brett asserts. He encourages clients to trust in the education and enthusiasm of younger agents, who are well-equipped to navigate the evolving landscape of the industry.
A Career of Impact and Fulfillment
For Brett, working in the insurance industry has been more than just a job; it’s a fulfilling career that has enriched his life in numerous ways. The industry has provided him with stability, flexibility, and the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with esteemed professionals.
“This industry has impacted my life for the better in a variety of ways. It has allowed me to work with numerous people who I look up to and enjoy learning from inside and outside of the industry,” Brett explains. “I now see this as a career rather than just a job, and I feel fortunate for it to be my first job out of college.”
As Brett continues to grow and excel in his career, we are excited to see the positive impact he will undoubtedly have on the insurance industry and our community. His recognition in Big I’s 40 Under 40 is a testament to his hard work, dedication, and passion for helping others.
