Compass Insurance, an independent insurance agency serving Central Illinois, has been named a 2026 Best Practices Agency, marking the fifth time our agency has earned this distinction. The recognition places Compass among a select group of the nation’s top-performing independent insurance agencies.
What the Best Practices Designation Represents
Since 1993, the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America (IIABA, known as the Big “I”) and Reagan Consulting, an Atlanta-based management consulting firm, have partnered on the Best Practices Study, a comprehensive analysis of the business operations and performance of the insurance industry’s top-performing independent agencies.
Each study cycle, agencies are benchmarked against their peers across seven revenue categories, with only the strongest performers in each category qualifying for Best Practices Agency status.
More than 1,190 independent insurance agencies across the United States were nominated during the current study cycle. For the 2026 study year, just 300 agencies qualified for and maintained their Best Practices Agency designation.
Earning the designation is only part of the challenge. Agencies are selected every three years through a highly competitive nomination and qualification process. To maintain Best Practices status throughout the three-year study cycle, participating agencies must submit detailed financial and operational information for annual review.
The 2026 study year marks the second year of the current three-year cycle, meaning Compass has once again been evaluated and reaffirmed as a top-performing independent agency.
