Hello everyone! My name is Greg and I have been with Compass Insurance since 1994.

My father, Eldon Steffen, started the agency in 1952, and my business partner and I bought the agency in 1994.

My first 10 years in the business, I was a Life Specialist, then I began to insure Fire Protection Districts in the state of Illinois. I love working with the incredible chiefs, trustees, and fire fighters of our districts and helping them serve their communities safely. We now insure over 230 Fire Protection Districts. As we have continued to grow, I have spent more time involved in management of the agency and working actively with our fire districts. We have employed great people to service our clients as we continue to expand. I am so excited to watch our younger agents grow and develop.

I was born and raised in Cissna Park, Illinois. After high school, I joined the US Army and spent 7 years in active duty, including a tour in Korea. I completed my active duty service at Fort Carson in Colorado. While in the army, I married my high school sweetheart, Darla (Kregel).

Once my active tour of duty was complete, we moved back to Normal, Illinois where I attended Illinois State University, majoring in Business Finance. While going to college, I remained in the Army Reserves, eventually retiring from the Army after 21 years of service. Once I finished at ISU, we moved to Towanda, Illinois and started a family. We have 2 adult children, Eric and Shannon. While living in Towanda, I joined the Fire Protection District fulfilling a dream of being a firefighter.

In 2001 we opened an insurance office in Leroy, Illinois and we moved into the community in 2002. While living in Leroy for the past 20 years, I have served on the City Council and LeRoy Fire and Ambulance. We appreciate living in a small town and love being involved at our church and in the community.
